Little Mitchellwood, Biggar

Biggar & District Community Heritage Limited was set up in 2005.
It is a Company limited by Guarantee (SC 281826) and a Registered Charity (SC 036413).  Its purpose is to conserve, improve and maintain the local heritage, both built and natural, in Biggar and its surrounding area.  It also has a social welfare and educational remit, developing good relationships within the community and stimulating public interest and education in heritage matters.

The first project, the restoration and improvement of a small neglected woodland (see Little Mitchellwood page), is nearing completion and further projects are under discussion and in the pipeline following consultation with the membership of the Company and the Community.  These include further environmental projects with an eye on public access and wildlife conservation as well as town heritage proposals.

Membership of the Company is open to all in Biggar and the surrounding area.  The more members we have the more likely it is that outside funding agencies will view favourably applications for funding of community heritage projects.  At present membership stand just short of 100 and is growing.

Please consider joining.  To do so complete the enrolment form or call Morag Renwick on 01899 220199.  There is no membership fee and you would only be required to pay £1 if the Company should ever be wound up with debts still owing.  However, funds are needed for running expenses and liability insurance for the projects that have public access.  These expenses are not covered by grants, we therefore depend on voluntary donations.  Tax on donations is recoverable by the Company if a gift-aid form is signed.  All these forms can be found here>>.

Volunteers are also sought to work on projects and to act as wardens.  This can be fun and healthy exercise.  The first woodland project was undertaken almost entirely by volunteers, of which we are extremely proud. To become a volunteer please complete the online contact form>>
